Connectivity
How do I configure the University VPN so I can connect to my machine remotely? [Mac]
Installing the VPN Client:
- First, download the VPN client installer. Two versions are available, one for Mac OS X 10.2 and 10.3 and one for Mac OS X 10.4 (including Intel Macs). You may be asked where to save it – recommend saving it to your Desktop so it will be easier for you to find once it is downloaded. If you have trouble accessing the download, please go here first:
http://support.uchicago.edu/docs/web/proxy/ and follow the instructions.
- The package should automatically extract itself once you download it; double-click "Cisco VPN Client.mpkg" to start the installer.
- After reading the introduction and accepting the license, you will be asked to choose a destination folder for the software. Select the drive where you want it to install and click Continue.
- Once the installation process is finished, you will see a confirmation screen: click Finish. You will need to reboot.
Connecting to the VPN:
Use the following instructions to connect to the University's VPN; you need to follow these steps each time you want to connect.
- Open the VPN Client by going to Hard Drive → Applications → VPNClient.
- Once the client is up, go to Connection Entries and double-click UniversityofChicagoVPN.
- The system will then prompt you for your Username and Password: enter your CNetID and CNet password and click OK.
- When prompted for the terms of usage, click Continue to agree and you will be connected to the VPN!
When you are ready to disconnect, go to Connection Entries → Disconnect.
Once you've connected, just use your network connection as you normally would – except that you should now be able to access University network resources as if you were on campus.
