Connectivity
How do I configure the University VPN so I can connect to my machine remotely? [Windows]
First,
download the VPN client installer. We recommend saving it to your Desktop so it will be easier for you to find once it is downloaded. If you have trouble accessing the download, please go here first:
http://support.uchicago.edu/docs/web/proxy/ and follow the instructions.
- Double-click the file you've downloaded to start the installer. The name of the file will be vpn.exe.
- After reading the introduction and accepting the license, you will be asked to choose a destination folder for the software. You can change the folder it is installed to via the Browse button; otherwise, starting installing the VPN software by clicking Next.
Once the installation process is finished, you will see a confirmation screen: click Finish. You will need to reboot.
Connecting to the VPN:
Use the following instructions to connect to the University's VPN; you need to follow these steps each time you want to connect.
- Open the VPN Client by going to Start → Program → Cisco Systems VPN Client → VPN Client.
- Once the client is up, go to Connection Entries and double-click University of Chicago VPN.
- The system will then prompt you for your Username and Password: enter your CNetID and CNet password and click OK.
- When prompted for the terms of usage, click Continue to agree and you will be connected to the VPN!
The VPN Client automatically minimizes once it has made a connection; when you are ready to disconnect, load the program again from the Program menu and go to Connection Entries → Disconnect.
Once you've connected, just use your network connection as you normally would – except that you should now be able to access University network resources as if you were on campus.
