How can I access my work computer securely from off campus? Can I remote in to my machine?

You can use Remote Desktop to connect to your computer at work.

To do so, you will need to set up and configure the University's VPN (Virtual Private Network) client. VPN allows you to connect to on-campus resources, and ensures the privacy of data sent across the internet.

The VPN client is available from NSIT and can be downloaded from http://licensing.uchicago.edu/download/proxy/vpn/. If you have difficulty configuring the VPN client please contact the BSDIS Service Desk at 2-2056, or download the tipsheets for Mac and Windows.

A more thorough explanation of how VPN works and how it is secure is available from NSIT's website.
